What happens in Vegas

We are sharing here a coverage of the special reunion held by our  friends from the United States and Canada on November 21 at Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas. The event was attended by 31 alumni and guests, the biggest LDHS-related gathering so far organized by  North America-based graduates.

Picnic in Canada

LDHS reunions are taking place not only in the Philippines but also in other parts of the world. Fellow alumni in the United States have linked up with each other and are now regularly holding activities. Last July 19 Canada-based graduates from different batches also had a get-together, a picnic held at the Petticoat Conservation Park in Ontario.

Mrs. Arafiles live

We are broadcasting a short video of Mrs. Sabina Arafiles, a former LDHS teacher, being interviewed by Ric Javier (Batch ’70) during their get-together in California on March 20-21. The event was attended by alumni from different batches.

Our thanks go to Marissa de Jesus, an adopted member (she’s from Torres High) of the LDHS Alumni Network, for posting this video and the pictures. And, of course, to Ric for the nice interview (showbiz na showbiz ang dating).

Mrs. Arafiles ‘revisited’

We are (again!) “stealing” some photos posted on the LDHS Alumni Network, which were taken during the visit made by a group of US-based schoolmates to Mrs. Sabina Arafiles. Ma’am Sabina used to teach English at LDHS and has been living in Panorama City, California for years. We’re glad she’s still up and about, enjoying her retirement.

LDHS alumni network now online

We are pleased to announce that a website aimed at linking up Lakan Dula High School graduates all over the world is now online. An initiative of our class, the site has been named LDHS Alumni Network and can now be accessed via this URL: http://ldhsalumni.ning.com.

The online community is our response to requests from fellow graduates who had been goading us to initiate the setting up of a site that would cater to all LDHS alumni.

Compared with this blog, the LDHS Alumni Network is more interactive. All members get their own profile page and can upload their announcements, photos, videos, and music. They can also interact with other members through the built-in chat, forum, blog, and e-mail features. The site’s official languages are Filipino and English.

Needless to say, the success of the site is dependent on how active the members are in maintaining it and in gathering as many alumni as possible. (Please take note that LDHS administrators, teachers, and employees – past and present – can also join this network.)

The site is still under construction and will definitely undergo a lot of changes, especially in its appearance. Forming an administration team is also being planned, so we call on all those interested to get in touch with us or the Network’s interim web team.

Visit the site now and be counted.

Foundation Day circa 1968

Our fellow LDHS alumni from different batches are in constant touch with us, joining us in this trip down memory lane. One of them Is Loreto Razon, a member of Class 1970, who sent us this “classic” picture of the school’s Foundation Day in 1968. In this photo, Loreto is escorting Fe Mamaril-Fauni (IV-1, Batch ’71), who was chosen as Miss Supreme Student Council. Aside from being the chair of the student council, Lor was also associate editor of The Barangay.

Batch ’73 launches website

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the members of LDHS Batch ’73 on the launching of  their website: http://ldhs73.com.

Not too long ago, a number of them were exchanging emails with us, all of them sharing their own experience in tracking down batchmates. We’re just glad they now have their own virtual meeting place, which is a welcome addition to websites maintained by LDHS graduates. To know how the site came about, read Aoie Calaoagan-Maghirang’s article How it started.

Class ’73 is holding a grand reunion on January 31, 2009, 6:00 p.m. , at the Edsa Plaza Shangri-la in Mandaluyong. Those interested can send an email to:
louconstantino29[at]yahoo[dot]com, rregis[at]adb[dot]org, christynad[at]yahoo[dot]com or send text message to 09174229053 or 09219783148.

Good luck to all of you!
