A journey to Lubao

San Pablo 1st

San Pablo may not immediately ring a bell, but this small barrio in Lubao, Pampanga, was one of the places that the peps used to visit. Its official name is actually San Pablo 1st – to differentiate it from San Pablo 2nd – and is the birthplace of Lito Parungo’s ancestors.

Those who have been to the place include George Hizon, Eric Macatangay, Mario Mercado, Noel Guevarra, Ruby Gaviola, Zeny Cervantes and, of course, Mel Abas, who eventually moved from Sta. Rita to Lubao after marrying a local lass from the  nearby Remedios.

During his visit to the Philippines last year, Lito went back to San Pablo and snapped some shots of the place, including the house where the peps spent their vacation days a couple of times.

Below is Lito, with Germany-based cousin Ma. Luisa Parungo (LDHS Batch ’80), aunt Annie, mom Lucia, and aunt Lily (Luisa’s mom).

The picture below was taken from the backyard of “our” vacation house (too bad there was no shot of the house itself):

Luckily we have a view of the house’s interior – and a number of Lito’s relatives:

Included in the photo below is Lito’s niece and inaanak, Diana Parungo,  who also spent the first three years of her high school life at LDHS.

And finally, a visit to San Pablo Church before heading back to Manila:

    Tolits,

Thanks for the birthday greetings. Birthday lang, hindi happy. Got lot of things to think of. Getting old, missing you guys, missing my father, “death threat” (matanda na kasi eh), my friends, my family and my loved ones (marami kasi e kaya plural, joke lang). Everyone and everything pumapasok sa isip ko. Somehow I feel so tired and yet I am afraid to rest forever. Ganito pala ang tumatanda, nagiging lalong feeling senti. Sabi nga ng daughter kong si Larizza, “don’t think you are getting older, you are just getting wiser”. But the way I look at it, mas wise sila, kasi lagi nila ako naiisahan, kaya feeling ko tumatanda. Anyway, just sharing you how I feel nowadays, parang KSP e. Masakit isipin na several years from now “dual citizen” na tayo. Filipino ctizen and senior Citizen. Thanks, anyway. Belated greetings din kay Zen and Malu.
