Birthday song for Jun

“Unknown to most of you, Jun is God’s answer to my prayers. That’s why I am so happy and proud for having him.  He’s so loving, responsible, understanding, a good provider, a father and a friend to our kids.”

Thus declared Zeny Cervantes when we asked her to say something about her husband Jun Vigo who is celebrating his birthday on July 1. And to the list of adjectives Zeny mentioned above, we would like to add the word funny because we always remember Jun as one with that wonderful sense of humor.

In case Zeny is looking for a birthday song to sing for Jun, she might as well consider this one:

Happy birthday, dear classmate and friend.

Old Manila

In his column today in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Dr. Michael Tan writes about two videos, titled “Castillian Memoirs” and “Queen City of the Pacific”, that feature rare footage of Manila in the ’30s.

We are sharing them with you to supplement our history teachers’ lack of teaching aid when they were discussing how the Philippines of yore looked like. Sabi nga, huli man daw at magaling, naihahabol din. 8)

“The films are entertaining but they can be educational as well. History and geography classes could come alive as students get to see moving pictures of life in Manila before World War II,” writes Dr. Tan, who is also teaching at the University of the Philippines.

To read more about these films, please read Dr. Tan’s column here.

Reunion countdown

Simula na rin ng pag-eempake

The countdown to our July class reunion has begun. We are going to regularly update this particular post for announcements:

  1. Ma’am Fe has decided to move her arrival date from July 6 to July 9. As we told you earlier, she is staying at Remy Tuazon’s place in Antipolo. We are organizing a visit to Lakan Dula with her, so let us know if you want to tag along. Ma’am and daughter Michelle are returning to Bohol on July 14. Thanks to Remy for booking their flight.
  2. Keith has paid for the venue and would like to thank the peps who have donated to the reunion fund. Ruby Gaviola, our treasurer, will come up with an accounting of these donations as soon as possible.
  3. Yoly Mañalac has sent a card to the Laarni Canicula we found on the net and let’s hope she responds.
  4. A meeting is tentatively set for June 29 to finalize everything. Watch for Remy’s confirmation.
