Charlie Green

When we featured Filipino singer Madonna Decena on our site, we didn’t know that there was another Pinoy who also auditioned for “Britain’s got talent”. His name is Charlie Green, a 10-year-old half-Filipino, half-Briton kid who, just like Madonna, got a standing ovation from both the audience and the panel of judges.

We just love winners here, as you may have noticed by now. Anyway, here’s TV Patrol’s report on the success of these two kababayans:

Peps at play

Peps at play

Here’s another photo we recently found. It was taken sometime in the ’80s during our Angono days. The peps are shown here at play (pray?)

Have you more photos of the peps with you? We really have to save these for posterity.

Hey Jude

Another intermission number while we are waiting for updates from the peps. This is cool.

The boy is Ha YoungWoong (or Hero in English). He was born in Korea in September 2003 and started singing when he was two years old. He can now sing about 40 songs of The Beatles and 40 other pop songs. He was only three when this video was recorded.

Charice on ‘Oprah’

Remember our post on singing sensation Charice Pempengco? There’s really no stopping this wunderkind as she continues getting invitations worldwide and consistently bringing the house down wherever she goes. Topping all these TV appearances is this performance of hers on the Oprah Winfrey Show last May 12.

Unfortunately, the “Oprah” video is being regularly removed from YouTube because of copyright issues. We are therefore adding another clip: Charice’s recent guesting on “The Paul O’Grady Show” in the UK.

Buhay Jeddah

Eric Macatangay posted this interesting video on his YouTube channel. Entitled “Buhay Jeddah”, the short film is a first-hand account of a Pinoy who is setting foot in Saudi Arabia for the first time.

Jeddah is Saudi’s second largest city next to Riyadh, the capital.

It is not often that we get to see footage of that country – or the Middle East, for that matter – which for years has been hosting  millions of Filipino workers, including Eric who is currently working at the Jeddah airport.

Tidbit: Aside from Eric, the following peps have worked in the Middle East: Eddie Roberto (still in Qatar), Keith dela Cruz, Larry Ramos, Ronnie Gorgonio, Buddy Ignacio, Roger del Prado and Didi Espiritu.

Consider this video as Eric’s contribution to our section Travelogue. We will supply the name of the filmmaker as soon as we get it from Eric.

All the best, Keith

Keith dela Cruz

Keith dela Cruz is celebrating his birthday tomorrow (May 15) and we are wishing him all the happiness he deserves.

Happy birthday, Keith. Please include us in your long list of well-wishers who really cherish having you as best friend.

You may not be aware of it but you have taught a number of us, peps, how to love and celebrate ourselves, in the sense of what e. e. cummings once wrote: “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. ”

You will be fine.

Yoly on Mario and Laarni

Yoly Mañalac has joined forces with Dado Dizon in the search for our US-based classmates. Here’s Yoly’s latest update:

Hi Dado,

Kamusta na? Hope you’re doing well. I got Mario’s address but not sure if this is him as there are too many Mario Mercado’s in California. But this Mario Mercado has a middle initial of “M”, and was born in 1962. I kind of remember that he is Mario M. Mercado so hopefully, we are getting to the right Mario. I know Fresno is far from where you are. But here’s his information:

4240 Harvard Avenue
Fresno, CA 93722
(559) 275-2390

I got Laarni’s information after paying a fee. It didn’t offer much information except for an incomplete address. Went through another search engine, and I got a more complete address in LA with a phone number. Tried to call but line was already disconnected. I’m sending her mail and see if I can get to her, and hopefully, she responds.

Regards na lang to your family. Sana makasama mo ulit sila soon.

Take care,
