Graduation Day

Souvenir program“A dream that will need, all the love you can give
Everyday of your life, for as long as you live
Climb every mountain, ford every stream
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream”

“Climb every mountain”, from the movie “The sound of music”, was our graduation song. This and other memories of our graduation day were suddenly called forth once again when Eddie sent us a few pages of our souvenir program (click photo to enlarge).

Do you still remember the other song we sang then? It was also about mountains, but in Pilipino. Sirit na? It was “Bundok Banahaw”. Both songs were taught to us by our music teacher Miss Martizano.

Our commencement exercise was held on March 28, 1978 at 7 o’clock in the morning. Because the school’s newly-acquired Ventura annex was not yet available at that time, the ceremony was again held at Torres High School.

Those who graduated with honors were all from the IV-1 class, except for Rizalina Santos who was from IV-2. Here they are:

Honor graduates

Red George Hizon

Zenaida Cervantes

Honorable Mentions (in this order):
Ariel Dimacali, Ma. Rosarita Quijano, Laarni Canicula, Ana Marie Joaquin, Yolanda Mañalac, Remedios Tuazon, Restituto Vigo, Evelyn Bongalon, Lauro Ramos, Eduardo Roberto, Salvador Ignacio, Carlito Parungo and Rizalina Santos.

Note that on the cover of the souvenir program, it is mentioned that ours was the 14th batch to graduate from LDHS. This means that the school’s very first graduation was held in 1965. Does this also mean then that the school was founded in 1961?

Aside from Eddie, at least two more peps – Larry and Remy – still have this graduation program with them. We have requested them to scan the whole booklet so that we can offer it as a downloadable file not only to our class but to our batchmates as well. Watch for it.

Below is a sound clip of “Climb every mountain” to refresh your memory”:

Hi! Nice website. Hope you can post all the class pictures since 1966 to present. Is it possible? Maybe we can ask tthe principal’s office if they have the files. They should have … Best regards.

The Site Team: Hi, Elisa. That’s a tall order, though a great idea. But nothing is impossible. We will try our very best. Thanks for the suggestion. May we ask why 1966? Was that the founding year of the school and not 1961 as we are assuming in the foregoing article? Anyway, thanks for visiting us.
